Straight To Server Shortcuts

Ok now if you want to get into the server you know and love straight away i have a little trick for you.
This will involve editing a spare Battlefield 1942 (the lil green tank) icon.

So first off, if you have a shortcut to BF right click, create shortcut, rename it the server say Scorpion Kingdom.

Now incase you dont have an icon floating around goto your program files, battlefield folder and look for one todo the same, ok so now we have our spare icon.

here comes the code bit:-

things you need..an ip address to the server, here are my fave servers addy's:-

SK:216.155.146.25:14567

VXF:8.2.121.178:14567

VU:80.69.80.210:14567

Right so we have some ip's!

So to start with on the new shortcut, right click, properties then look at the target line, it will be like this:-

TARGET:-
C:\Program Files\EA GAMES\Battlefield 1942\BF1942.exe

Now look at my SK shorty:-

TARGET:-
C:\Program Files\EA GAMES\Battlefield 1942\BF1942.exe +joinServer 216.155.146.25:14567 +restart 1

So by adding these simple lines in you will get an icon that goes and loads up your server directly, skipping all the bullshit, but do read carefully and you might learn some basic coding.
Upto EXE is the same then we add +joinserver (obvious command) followed by a space then the ip(we it is going) then comes +restart 1(meaning it restarts the load up direct into the loading screen!)

Now feel free to simply copy and paste my ones below, but i suggest simply adding the last bits after EXE incase your game destination folder is on another hard drive!

VXF(Engineered Performance):-
C:\Program Files\EA GAMES\Battlefield 1942\BF1942.exe +joinServer 8.2.121.178:14567 +restart 1

Vu:-
C:\Program Files\EA GAMES\Battlefield 1942\BF1942.exe" +joinServer 80.69.80.210:14567 +restart 1

Hope this saves you guys some valuable fragging time

*Update* I have noticed the codes I was given work on a Bf1942.exe basis and thus don't include a time saving piece of code that, depending on your desired Mod, starts it directly in said mod so..

as of March 2012, my Scorpion Kingdom Shorcut looks like this (please note I am running Bf from a RAID 0 Array and so my drive letter and directory path is different from most)

"R:\Battlefield 1942\BF1942.exe" +game DesertCombat +joinServer 216.155.146.25:14567 +restart 1

See the extra bit? +game DesertCombat This puts it straight into DC! So if your server is say Forgotten Hope, it would pay to put in that instead

Little trick I have done for this install is to even customize the shortcut icon that i have placed in my task bar, easy but this site HERE is very handy.

So for Scorpion Kingdom, when I am ready to fly, all i do is click this icon on the task bar



And it will load straight into the server by-passing all the load ups, like intro's, menu's and vitally background load ups such as the Tobruk (its one of them anyway, IE unnecessary) which it caches when you start bf42

then BOOM I am in and ready!
